Glendale Adventist Medical Center
Transition and Move Occupancy Services (457-bed facility)
TIMELINE: 1 year (Expedited timeline)
Details:
This acute care 7-story tower opened in 2007 and features a new and expanded ED; a radiology department combining Imaging Services with
state-of-the-art MRI & CT technology; a cardio-vascular floor with four Cardiac Cath Labs and comprehensive testing center; six
OR suites (2 cardio, 2 ortho, 2 general, cysto room and 16 pre/post recovery beds); two 24-bed Med/Surg floors plus telemetry; new
12-bed ICU; and a new OP Admitting department.
Challenges:
Hired late in the move occupancy planning process, 5THink's challenge was to restructure and deliver the operational planning process
and occupancy planning in a shorter than usual timeframe. Additionally, due to the new facility's single entry route of a significant
span and gradient, the development of a complex transportation plan was necessary to insure the efficient, safe delivery of materials
and supplies from multiple support departments located in different buildings on campus.
Results:
To accommodate the abbreviated timeline available to accomplish the move transition, we provided an intense, hands-on scope of service
and a constant meeting presence. The crucial transportation issue was resolved by the formation of an ad-hoc committee with
representation from all of the hospital clinical and non-clinical support service departments working together. We completed an
assessment of equipment and personnel resources, created detailed, integrated floor plan diagrams and held a mock exercise to
identify and correct any remaining problematic issues. The result was successful implementation of processes to support the newly occupied building.
