Sharp Memorial Hospital
Transition and Move Occupancy Services (334-beds)
TIMELINE: 2 years
Details:
The Stephen Birch Healthcare Center at Sharp Memorial Hospital is a 315,000 square-foot, 334-bed, 7 story tower that opened to patients in January of 2009.
This project included a new and expanded ER; expansion of the OR suites; two ICUs; and 8 Acute Care units.
Challenges:
Multiple initiatives — in service excellence categories, in receiving Magnet status, in major technology system upgrades with related training, and more —
competed for the available time that was necessary for concentration on the clinical operational changes taking place in the new building.
Additionally, the operational changes warranted by the extensive expansion of the new Emergency and Trauma unit as well as the modern technologies opening
in the new OR suites required detailed planning and management.
All of the non-clinical support departments also required changes in service delivery models to insure efficiencies, so new service contracts were negotiated and
new staffing models were developed.
Results:
Our scope of work plan detailed out the timelines and processes. Our creation of extensive work flow graphics illustrated the service changes taking place.
We supported and recorded regular meeting attendance and held routine project discussions with all team members to keep them on track.
We provided consistent personal guidance to support the changes that were put in place and the result was a successful occupancy and another satisfied client.
